Mad Love and a World of Support
November 15, 2013
I cannot emphasize enough how important our ability to connect and support those around us is to our sense of wellbeing. In yogic terms, our community is contributes to our ability to ground or root. Building strong roots through the development of family, friends and a larger community gives us a solid base to grow and develop.
Developing roots also gives us a sense of belonging. According to Social Psychologist Gregory Walton, "Our interests, motivation, health and happiness are inextricably tied to the feeling that we belong to a greater community that may share common interests and aspirations." More so, belonging to larger community also helps you adapt to stress.
A system of support carries us along through life and it remains one of the best remedies for lonliness and disease. Regardless of the challenges you've faced throughout your life and the challenges you currently face, reaching out and connecting with those around you will offer you the love and support you need to conquer each challenge.
I am so honored to be a part of a caring, supportive and tallented group of women professionals - Women of Weddings. Recently we joined in a campaign to support a friend and collegue who is battling cancer. This photo we contributed to Wanda Colon's Mad Love campaign was just a small gesture of love and support. Often it is the little things that make all the difference in the world. Reach out to those around you, offer support, ask for help when you need it, but more than anything be love.
